How do I know what is or isn’t a good deal?

This is always the most difficult aspect if you’re tracking pricing to a certain destination – especially one you don’t travel to on a regular basis: being able to recognise whether a certain price (even an advertised ‘sale’ price!) is actually a good deal or not.

Fare pricing for various destinations can (and often does) depend on so many factors (like distance, route competition, country/city taxes and tariffs, etc.) that it’s almost impossible to know what is a good fare unless you’re actively tracking each route for months. This is made even more difficult with the rise of the presence of budget airlines in long-haul travel, which offer lower up-front pricing but then charge more for ‘extras’ such as meals and checked luggage. So how can you tell whether a deal is truly a deal??

Luckily, that’s what I do, and I’m here to try and provide some guidance.

Note:

Here I’m listing what is a GOOD (not great!) deal for flights from the UK/Ireland to various destinations on full service airlines (such as British Airways, Virgin, etc.) or on budget airlines with all the add-on’s of a full service airline (for example a TUI/Thomson or Norwegian flight including the price of meals and a checked bag).

This is also based on an average airline quality as fares do vary by airline. For example, a £385 return to Ho Chi Minh on Air China is not a great fare, but the same fare on 5-star Qatar Airlines is a decent deal.
